Yesterday we were supposed to do the hot air balloon ride and there were two groups. The first group got in the air with no problems but when it came time for our balloon to get blown up it wouldn’t work. There was too much wind and time was ticking. The sun was rising and we were feeling axious that it wouldn’t happen. And it didn’t. We all resceduled for the next morning. Ugh, I had to wake up at 5am again.
Woke up bright and early and this time I didn’t even bother to do my make up lol. Our ride came about five minutes early but it was okay because we were both ready to go. We got into the tuk tuk and were on our way to the balloons. We saw the same people as the day before and we were all a little anxious about whether or not it would work today and if we would be able to see the sunrise.
Vang Vieng is one of the few places in the world where you can ride a hot air balloon for as little as $80 USD. That is crazy cheap! In Canada prices start at $300 and increase from there. I couldn’t say no to this amazing opportunity and I really wanted it to work today!
Much to my relief the balloon got up and running in no time and we were sailing up into the sky with our anti-gravity ship. It was such a unique feeling to be floating away in this clever contraption and the views were breathtaking. We got into the air just as the sun was starting to rise so the mountains were looking beautiful. There was a thick layer of clouds on the tops of the mountains and we travelled higher and higher in the air looking down at the rice fields and farmers land below.
I snapped a bunch of pictures and videos using my DSLR and GoPro and when I felt like I got enough shots I just took in the view, the moment and the scenery. It was absolutely breath taking, I’m so happy I got to experience this! There was a guy on the balloon who was there the day before and we got to chatting about his travels and introduced ourselves. He had been travelling for almost a year, 10 months in australia and about 2 months in South East Asia. Excellent, another source of first hand information to help me plan my Vietnam trip! We exchanged facebook info when we got into the car on the way back to town.
Check out the incredible photos from my hot air balloon ride! If you get a chance to do this in Vang Vieng you MUST!!
Today was a Travel day – 9am pick up for our (hopefully) 4 hour journey to Vientiane! I’m only in Vientiane for today/tonight and then I fly to Vietnam in the afternoon! So excited!
Oh and the bus to Vientiane is bumpy AF! Like seriously bumpy!!
