Our desert safari included pick up at our place, ATVing, camel ride, dune bashing and sand boarding. Using the entertainer it would have been only 344 dhm but we paid 700 dhm for a private tour which is still a pretty decent price.
I got on the ATV and immediately felt a rush of excitement. I started slow and steady at first but once I got the hang of it and felt comfortable I started taking more risks. I was racing up and down the dunes, getting that same rush you get when you go down a roller coaster! It was SOOO fun!! If you come to Dubai you MUST do this activity!
Camels are really huge. I mean, I knew they were huge but when you’re up close and personal with them they’re quite intimidating. I wearily climbed on top of the seated camel and the trainer signalled for him to stand up. I let out a huge scream as I felt like I was going to fall over. We went for a stroll, got some photos and came back to the starting spot. I tried to prepare myself for coming down but I still screamed when the camel sat down. The camel ride was okay… more for the pictures than anything else.
“Buckle up!” Our driver instructed as he sat in his seat, unbuckled. I sat in the front seat as our crazy driver sped up and down the sand dunes. It was nuts! My heart was racing and I was one step away from hyperventilating. THRILLING doesn’t even begin to describe it! I honestly don’t know how people can control the car like that, going so fast and not be scared of flipping over!
There was a group of people getting ready for a photo at the top of the hill and our driver started gunning it straight towards them. “Oh God! OH GOD!! Oh God!!!” I screamed as everyone else laughed. Some tried to run but our driver was so good he didn’t even flinch as he quickly diverted the car away from them right in time. It was an awesome experience. Dune bashing. MUST DO.
In my mind I thought sand boarding was like tobogganing but on sand. I stepped out of the jeep and saw a snowboard. “Oh hell no” was my first thought. I didn’t feel comfortable standing on the snow board so I sat down for the first ride. Meh. Didn’t go too fast so I decided to man up and do it again the right way. YOLO!
Oh my gosh, climbing back up the dune was so intense! By the time you get half way up you’re exhausted.
Once I got to the top and caught my breathe and tried again. I put my feet in, started to get into position and then the fear crept back in…”no, no, no I can’t do this.” I was holding our tour guides hand and didn’t want to let go. I didn’t have to though because he let me go and gave me a little push down. I fell half way because of my fear and it was fine! I decided I try one more time and really do it right this time.
Tried it again and conquered my fear! It was pretty fun but you could only do it a few times since you’ll probably die trying to catch your breathe just going up and down the sand dune. Seriously, why was it so hard?? Actually I know why. Imagine being in quick sand climbing a hill and trying to get to the top. That’s what it felt like climbing up the sand dune.
We had an amazing time on the desert safari. Absolutely loved it! Definitely going on the MUST DO list for Dubai.
