Cost: 800 bhat ($30 CDN)
Time: half day course 4pm – 8pm
I chose this cooking class out of the many that are offered in Chiang Mai because my hostel recommended it to me and when I looked up reviews everyone said it was amazing.
We started by going to a market and learning about the different ingredients used in Thai cooking.
Then we went to the cooking school where everything was set up and we chose the dishes we wanted to cook. I chose to cook:
- Spicy Thai basil soup
- Pad thai
- Red curry with pineapple
- Coconut sticky rice for dessert
I got to my cooking station and Nancy started to introduce ingredients to us.
There were the basic ingredients that we all got like chilies, onions and cilantro. And then depending on the dish you chose to make you got the other ingredients.
Once everything was cut and prepped we headed to the stove area where we each had our own stove to cook on. Nancy guided us through each step and within minutes our first dish was complete.
We set it down to cool off, took some photos and went back up start prepping our second dish. Once the main dish was compete, we sat down to eat our appetizer and main. It tasted soooo good! Better than restaurant food, seriously!!! I couldn’t even believe I cooked it.
After eating, we headed back to our station to make our curry paste. I chose red curry to I added the ingredients into the mortar and used the pestle to make the paste. My arm got so tired doing this but finally all my ingredients were blended together and the paste was complete. We took all our ingredients back to the station and made our curry followed by dessert.
Everything tasted amazing and stage process was so smooth and well organized. I really enjoyed this cooking class.
When we were finished eating we got a recipe book filled with the recipes of everything we cooked and a certificate stating that we completed the cooking course. A really cute touch.
I highly recommend this cooking class if you’re in Chiang Mai, it’s definitely worth it!
